Star Wars: The Old Republic plans two expansions in 2014

Other updates to F2P MMORPG outlined in producer's roadmap

Star Wars: The Old Republic will receive two new expansions in 2014, BioWare revealed on Tuesday.

Senior producer Brian Maclean laid out a roadmap of changes and additions fans of the free-to-play MMORPG can expect to see over coming months on the game's official website.

Chief among these changes are the two expansions, which Maclean said will respectively resemble 2013's Galactic Starfighter and Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansions in scope.

Galactic Starfighter bolstered The Old Republic's ship-to-ship combat with multiple new vehicles and player vs. player battle modes. Rise of the Hutt Cartel introduced a new planet complete with original storylines for Galactic Republic and Sith Empire players.

Though The Old Republic is free-to-play, expansion content is sold as a separate one-time purchase. Subscribers can purchase the content earlier and at a reduced price.

Free updates in the form of new Flashpoint instances, player-versus-player Warzones, and more are planned for the game in 2014. Maclean said game update 2.8, currently scheduled for June 10, will be the biggest update of its kind yet.
