Square Enix Montreal has revealed a new Hitman game: a turn-based strategy title for tablets and mobile devices that exchanges the series' usual grim photorealism for dioramas and plastic miniatures.
Hitman GO abstracts the franchise's stealth mechanics into a series of tile-based maps. As always, players must avoid detection with disguises, firearms, and traps while arranging the hit.
"We had total creative freedom to explore this and see what we could come up with - something separate to the AAA game that is being developed at [IO Interactive], but something which still retained the essence of what a Hitman game is," the studio wrote on Hitman's official website. "This was a lot of fun and we decided to develop something quite different and, we hope, totally unexpected."
Square Enix Montreal said Hitman GO is almost ready for launch. Fans can expect to see more about the game in coming weeks.
Another Hitman game in development at Square Enix Montreal was rumored to be canceled in January. Owner Square Enix did not deny the reports, but said that a previously announced "AAA Hitman game" is still in development at its home studio of IO Interactive.
