Shigeru Miyamoto has announced the Year of Luigi will end on March 18 in a post on the Miiverse, and thanked fans for showing their support to Mario's green brother.
"Almost a year has passed since I announced the Year of Luigi, marking the 30th anniversary of Luigi's debut," he said. "Thanks to everyone's kind support, we were able to release many Luigi games over the course of the year. I hope everyone continues to cheer for the green brother!"
"However, all good things must come to an end, and the Year of Luigi will conclude on March 18," he continued, before stating that the Miiverse community for the Year of Luigi will effectively cease to operate.
"From [March 18] on, the Year of Luigi Community and its Developers' Room will sadly no longer accept new posts or comments. That means there's one more month to go. I hope everyone continues to share their thoughts on Luigi with people from around the world!"
During the Year of Luigi Nintendo released a number of Luigi-themed games and merchandise.
In December 2013 Nintendo clarified that the celebration of Luigi would continue past December 31 since it was originally announced on February 14.
"There are some Year of Luigi activities that will continue into 2014, including some of the special products that we've launched, so there will be some Luigi products to carry the Luigi banner into the next calendar year," explained Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime.
Nintendo recently announced Super Luigi Brothers would be included in NES Remix 2.
