Former Nokia head to run Microsoft's Devices and Studios business

Julie Larson-Green moved to Applications and Services group

Microsoft will appoint former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop as its new head of Devices and Studios, replacing current head Julie Larson-Green.

The announcement comes via an internal Microsoft memo dispatched by Larson-Green and obtained by Geekwire, which details the change.

Elop will take control of the division which oversees Xbox and Surface tablets, while Larson-Green will move into the 'My Life & Work' team - otherwise known as Applications and Services - which oversees products including Bing and Skype.

The change isn't effective immediately: Larson-Green will remain in Devices and Studios until the Nokia acquisition is sealed.

Microsoft announced in September that it would acquire Nokia's Devices and Services business for €5.4 billion.

"This is a smart acquisition for Microsoft, and a good deal for both companies. We are receiving incredible talent, technology and IP. We've all seen the amazing work that Nokia and Microsoft have done together," Ballmer wrote in a message to employees at the time.

Microsoft announced its new CEO earlier this month in the form of India-born Satya Nadella.
