Steam devs can now discount their own games

No need to consult with Valve before joining promotions

Developers on Steam can now set discounts on their own games without consulting Valve beforehand.

A Reddit user relayed the information from Valve's private Steamworks community page. Formerly, developers needed to work with Valve to join weekly promotions or set up limited time discounts.

Now they need only access their Steamworks page for the title in question to configure one of two discounts: weeklong deals, which lets developers select an upcoming promotion from the next two months to join with a set discount percentage, and custom discount, which lets developers set their own promotions lasting up to two weeks.

Though the option has been added to Steam, it is not yet fully functional, as observed by Gun Monkeys developer Dan Marshall.

Valve recently added user-defined product tags to Steam, letting users sort games by labels chosen by their peers.
