Microsoft reviewing ID@Xbox release parity clause on a case by case basis

"Our goal is not to limit developers who are interested in Xbox One," says platform holder

Microsoft has opened the door to working with developers who can't meet its controversial self-publishing release parity clause.

The ID@Xbox program normally requires independent developers interested in self-publishing on Xbox One to release their games first Microsoft's console, or if not then at least in line with their release on other platforms.

This could make it difficult for studios that have already signed a time-exclusivity deal with another platform holder, or who do not have the resources to develop two versions at once, to release on Xbox One, several developers have observed.

But a Microsoft spokesperson has suggested to Edge that the company may be willing to overlook the clause in some circumstances:

"Our goal is not to limit developers who are interested in Xbox One. In instances where games have signed a timed exclusive with another platform, we'll work with them on a case by case basis. We encourage them to get in touch at id@xbox.com."

Microsoft revealed 65 of more than 200 independent developers signed on with ID@Xbox in late February. The first wave of games on the service is set to roll out later this month.
