Smash Bros confirmed for EVO 2014

Melee returns to the fighting tournament for the second time

The organisers of the Evo fighting game tournament have confirmed that Super Smash Bros. Melee will return this year as one of the featured games.

This will mark the second time Melee has featured at Evo, following its successful debut at least year's event.

With over 100,000 viewers, the EVO 2013 live stream of Smash Bros broke records to become the most watched fighting game stream of all time.

The record-breaking event came after Nintendo had initially attempted to ban the Smash Bros live stream, although it reversed its decision following pressure from Evo and the Smash Bros fighting community.

In all, over 700 competitors (including American Idol winner Taylor Hicks) took part in the Melee tournament at Evo 2013, making it the biggest ever Smash Bros tournament in history.

The Evo 2013 tournament as a whole broke viewership records, attracting 1.7 million unique viewers throughout.

Evo 2014 takes place in Las Vegas on July 11-13.
