The Last of Us passes 6 million copies sold

Critically acclaimed PS3 exclusive hits a new milestone

Developer Naughty Dog has said that The Last of Us has passed the 6 million sales milestone.

The studio made the announcement today as it heads into GDC next week with scheduled presentations in which it will "talk about some of the techniques and process that went into making The Last of Us", and "what made Left Behind, our first ever downloadable, single player story chapter, so unique".

The Last of Us sales topped 3.4 million units between the game's global release on June 14 and July 3.

This made the Naughty Dog developed PS3 exclusive the fastest selling new franchise in the console's history and the quickest selling PS3 game of 2013, according to Sony.

It was confirmed in early March that the game's creative director Neil Druckmann will pen the script for a The Last of Us movie. Alongside Naughty Dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, and game director Bruce Straley, Druckmann will also serve as a "creative architect" on the Sony project.

The Last of Us movie will be an adaptation of the PS3 game, rather than a new story set within the same universe.

A 90-minute making-of documentary titled 'Grounded: The making of The Last of Us' was released in February, and you can watch it for free through that link.
