Skype Xbox One update improves chat, filtering, and thwarts bugs

First client update available now for Skype on Xbox One

The Skype app for Xbox One has been updated with several improvements including improved chat and new contact filtering options.

The update improves the synchronization of conversations between multiple Skype-enabled devices. The patch keeps "conversations in sync and reducing the number of missed messages."

According to Skype, "Improved chat is now synchronized and comes with push notifications, alerting you when a new message arrives, and providing a longer chat history - up to 1,000 messages, rather than just the past 7 days."

New contact filtering options let you filter contacts by their online status, and new emoticons include icons based on characters from Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

There's a new first-time tutorial so guide you through the app, and several bug fixes have been implemented although Skype held off specifics.

Twitch streaming was recently added to the Xbox One's suite of built-in apps.

Twitch live broadcasting allows Xbox One owners to live stream their gameplay footage to viewers online in much the same way the Twitch app on PS4 allows. The function is restricted to Xbox Live Gold users only.
