Ubisoft has announced Assassin's Creed Unity, a next-generation version of its flagship series coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
"We have been working on the new Assassin's Creed for more than three years and although we weren't quite ready to show you our full vision for a next-gen only AC," it said in a press release, "it seems Abstergo are trying to force our hand!"
This is in reference to promotional images of the game that leaked on Wednesday.
According to the leaked report, Assassin's Creed: Unity will be set, at least in-part, in 18th century Paris. Images showed the unnamed protagonist walking through the city, with visible landmarks including the Notre Dame cathedral.
The on-screen HUD also appears to reveal new action commands to "parkour" up and down - possibly related to making it easier to traverse the intricate open city landscapes the series is known for.
The report also claimed that, as per "a number of sources", Unity is one of two unannounced Assassin's Creed games Ubisoft has in the works for release in "fall 2014".
Unity will supposedly be joined by a separate PS3 and Xbox 360 title "possibly" referred to as Comet. It's unclear if this title is final.
