Amazon and Double Helix targeting 'avid gamers'

Retailer also planning to assemble "future game teams"

Amazon and Double Helix Games' first project will target "avid video game players", according to a job listing on the retailer's website.

According to the advert, Amazon Game Studios and Double Helix Games "are passionate about building highly creative, exciting, and innovative entertainment". The post also suggests Amazon intends to expand its game development arm beyond Double Helix.

It reads: "As a Software Development Engineer developing tools and technology, you will be a creative problem solver who enjoys working with designers and gameplay programmers on new tools for our existing and future game teams."

Amazon acquired Double Helix Games' talent and IP in early February. The development studio most recently made Killer Instinct for Xbox One and revived Strider for Capcom.

It has long been rumoured that Amazon is producing a game console/set top box, and recent reports have suggested the media streaming device will come in dongle form similar to Google's Chromecast.

Sources said to be familiar with the company's plans have suggested the device will offer support for streaming top tier PC games at 30fps from Amazon's server farms.

Amazon's platform has supposedly been in development since April 2013, is in testing now, and may begin shipping as early as April 2014.
