Wolfenstein: New Order collector's edition does not include game

Bethesda cuts down on oversized shipping costs and delays

Bethesda has announced a $100 collector's edition for Wolfenstein: The New Order that does not include a copy of the game.

The Panzerhund Edition, which will be limited to 5,000 copies, comes in a "vintage footlocker-style box". The box includes flavor objects from the game like maps, case files, and an X-ray of protagonist BJ Blaskowicz, 14 postcards, a custom Steelbox game case, and an 8" articulated statue of the game's robotic Panzerhund enemy.

Bethesda said eschewing a copy of the game in the collector's edition is ultimately more convenient for consumers.

"Keep your pre-order at your favorite retailer and we'll send you these goodies separately", the official product listing reads, "this way we can ship these boxes worldwide and you're not stuck waiting for your game to come along with an oversized, expensively shipped box."

Wolfenstein: The New Order will release globally on May 20, after being brought forward in Europe and Australia. The title will ship on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC.

Pre-orders for the game come with guaranteed access to beta tests for the next Doom.

CVG's most recent Wolfenstein The New Order preview concluded: "On the evidence of what we saw it's a solid shooter with a strange, '70s exploitation film aesthetic - a logical direction in which to take the Wolfenstein series.

"But whether the story manages to sustain its early promise is the factor that will determine The New Order's worth. That a Wolfenstein game should rely so heavily on its narrative is the height of irony because this is, afterall, a game about shooting Nazis in the face."
