Sony says DriveClub is 'making spectacular progress'

Update on game's development and release date planned "in the weeks to come"

Sony has issued a fresh statement designed to allay concerns surrounding the development of DriveClub.

The Evolution Studios developed racer was originally meant to be a PS4 launch title, but in October 2013 the game was delayed to a vague "early 2014" window.

On Wednesday, shortly after it emerged that DriveClub's game director Col Rodgers had left Evolution, amid new reports of wider layoffs at Sony, the company broadened the DriveClub release date to TBA 2014.

In a new statement, a Sony spokesperson told CVG: "We would like to make it very clear that the development of DriveClub on PS4 is going from strength to strength.

"The announced studio changes across WWS have not affected the development of DriveClub or the DriveClub team, which has always had great direction and continues to do so.

"We have full confidence that the game will deliver on its PS4 promise to be the first truly socially connected racing title and we are very pleased and excited by the calibre of work from Evolution Studios.

"The progress being made on the game is spectacular, so we're looking forward to sharing an update on development, release date and videos of the game in action in the weeks to come. We thank you for your patience and assure you, it will be worth the wait."

Sony Worldwide Studios America software product development boss Scott Rohde said in early March that DriveClub had needed to "go back to the drawing board".
