Nosgoth, the free-to-play asymmetrical shooter set in the world of Legacy of Kain, is now available on Steam Early Access.
Players can access the game by buying one of six 'Founders Packs', which range in price from £12/$20 to £81/$135. The packs contain a variety of in-game rewards on top of beta access, including in-game currency, special status titles, boosts, skins, and weaponry.
Developer Psyonix notes that the game won't be truly free-to-play until it hits open beta, at which point the packs will drop out of circulation. But players who want to get on board early are welcome to ante up.
"Nosgoth will be on Steam Early Access until Open Beta, after which the game will then be found in the Free-to-play section of Steam," the Steam listing reads. "When in Open Beta users will be able to access & play Nosgoth for free. It is our recommendation that if you aren't sure about the experience you'll get in Closed Beta, you should wait for Open Beta and play Nosgoth for free."
Nosgoth's closed beta began on February 27.
Square Enix has assured fans that although Nosgoth is free-to-play, it will not be hostile for non-paying players. George Kelion, a community manager at Square Enix London Studios, said in February that Nosgoth was "free-to-play but not pay-to-win".
Described as a competitive, team-based human versus vampire multiplayer game, Nosgoth has gained a cult following due to its ties with the Legacy of Kain series. The game pits two factions against each other in battle, where players must use "each race's unique fighting style to conquer and crush the opposition in a war for supremacy and for survival".
