Minecraft Pocket Edition has sold more than 21 million copies.
The mobile-friendly version of the survival sandbox game is available on iOS, Android, and other portable devices. Minecraft lead developer Jens Bergensten posted about the sales milestone on Twitter Wednesday.
Developer Mojang plans to host a live stream in celebration on April 14, where the team will answer questions pulled from Reddit.
Minecraft Xbox 360 edition has sold more than 12 million copies while the original PC version had moved 14.3 million as of February, making Pocket Edition the most-purchased version of the game.
Minecraft: Pocket Edition's success on mobile platforms is particularly notable given its $6.99 price tag, significantly higher than most of its chart-topping competitors.
Mojang made $128 million in profit in 2013. Roughly 25 percent of the Swedish studio's profits was attributed to Minecraft's mobile versions.
The game started as the work of Markus "Notch" Persson, first releasing in public alpha in 2009. Since then it has become a global phenomenon, even attracting a brief parody from The Simpsons.
