Battlefield 4 DLC Naval Strike goes on general sale today

Expansion pack no longer available exclusively to Premium subscribers

The latest Battlefield 4 DLC pack, Naval Strike, goes on general sale today.

The ocean combat focused expansion has been available exclusively to Battlefield Premium subscribers since late March, although the Xbox One and the PC versions suffered short delays.

The DLC includes four new competitive multiplayer maps set in the South China Sea: Lost Islands, Nansha Strike, Wave Breaker and Operation Mortar. It also introduces five new weapons, the amphibious hovercraft vehicle, ten assignments and Carrier Assault mode, which is an homage to Battlefield 2142's Titan mode.

Naval Strike is the third of five planned Battlefield 4 expansions due for release by the summer of 2014. They can be pre-purchased as part of the £39.99 / $50 Battlefield Premium subscription offering. The other four expansions are Second Assault, China Rising, Dragon's Teeth and Final Stand.

DICE recently confirmed that Dragon's Teeth will feature the addition of a ballistic shield. The two-handed shield will serve as mobile cover in the DLC, which is set to focus on urban warfare.

During a GDC session earlier this month, senior animator Ryan Duffin said DICE initially wanted to create a shield which players could use in combination with handguns. However, development schedules and last-gen hardware memory constraints meant the feature couldn't be implemented. Instead, players will be able to melee with the shield, which has an attack range of about one metre.
