The Last of Us PS4 discount for PS3 owners not ruled out

Naughty Dog and Sony "looking into the business model for all this"

Owners of The Last of Us on PS3 may be able to pick up The Last of Us Remastered for PS4 at a discounted rate when the latter releases this summer.

Asked specifically if owners of The Last of Us and the game's season pass will get a next-gen upgrade discount, Naughty Dog community strategist Eric Monacelli said on the PS Blog: "We're looking into the business model for all this and will post about this once we have input from all regions."

Sony, Microsoft and a number of major third party publishers offered a range of current-to-next-gen software upgrade promotions following the launches of PS4 and Xbox One last November, although many of these have now expired. On Sony's system, for example, PS3 versions of some games came with 12 character voucher codes to redeem discounted PS4 editions.

The Last of Us Remastered release date is being listed as June 20 2014 by multiple US retailers including Target and Best Buy. Priced at $59.99, the title will feature a number of improvements over 2013's PS3 original, with Naughty Dog targeting 60fps.

Studio co-president Evan Wells says: "The graphical fidelity has been turned up to 11, we've got 1080p, we're pushing the draw distances further, we're creating higher resolution character models, better lighting, better shadows."

Remastered will also include a number of The Last of Us DLC packs featured in the game's season pass, including the Left Behind single-player add-on.
