GameSpy closure bringing Borderlands, Civ titles offline 'temporarily'

2K confirms plans to transition legacy titles to new servers

The first Borderlands game and multiple titles in the Civilization series will be offline "temporarily" as a result of the GameSpy closure, 2K Games has confirmed.

GameSpy Technology announced in early April that its servers are due to close down on that date and will "cease providing all hosted services for all games still using GameSpy".

More than 800 games made use of GameSpy's servers over the past decade. A long list of games affected by the closure has been posted here.

2K confirmed on Tuesday plans to migrate the PC versions of Borderlands and numerous Civilization titles to new servers for the resumption of full online play.

These games will "temporarily go offline while service is transitioned to Steamworks," explained 2K today. "During the transition, players will experience interruption of several features, including online play, matchmaking and voiceover Internet protocol (VOIP)." Offline play will go unaffected.

Here's the full list of games due for migration:

Borderlands;
Civilization III;
Civilization III: Conquests;
