Ground Zeroes ships 1 million copies

Konami to unlock platform exclusives in celebration

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has shipped 1 million copies since it released in March, Konami announced Friday.

The figure accounts for retail units shipped worldwide. It does not include digital sales, which were offered across PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

The strong sales came despite some controversy regarding the single-player prologue's length.

Konami also confirmed that Ground Zeroes' PlayStation exclusive Déjà vu mission - where Big Boss recreates scenes from the original Metal Gear Solid - and Xbox exclusive Jamais Vu mission - which reintroduces polemic MGS character Raiden in a battle against body-snatchers - will be made available free to all players starting in a title update scheduled for May 1.

In our Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes review we said it was an "accessible and intricately designed open-world mission, but one that offers too little for its asking price." Soon after, we managed to complete the game's main campaign in 18 minutes.

Ground Zeroes is a precursor to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the next major project from Kojima Productions. Its release date is unclear, though expectations pin it to a 2015 launch, or possibly late 2014 at the earliest.
