Last of Us lead character artist reportedly leaves Naughty Dog

Michael Knowland adds his name to list of recent departures

The Last of Us lead character artist Michael Knowland has left his position at Naughty Dog, if an update made to his online resume is accurate.

Knowland's LinkedIn profile was recently altered to indicate that his term as lead character artist at Naughty Dog concluded in April 2014 after two years and seven months. Gaming sleuth Superannuation was the first to report the change.

Knowland worked as a character artist at Naughty Dog from January to October 2011 and on Kinectimals at Frontier Developments before that.

CVG has reached out to Sony Computer Entertainment America and Naughty Dog to confirm Knowland's departure and will update with any response.

If Knowland has indeed left Naughty Dog, he would be the fourth high-level employee to leave the studio since March.

The Last of Us' lead artist Nate Wells left the studio early in April to join The Unfinished Swan developer Giant Sparrow.

In late March, Uncharted PS4 game director Justin Richmond left Naughty Dog after six years and took a position at League of Legends developer Riot Games.

Uncharted series director Amy Hennig left the studio in early March. She had worked at Naughty Dog since the days of Jak & Daxter.

Hennig was quickly hired by EA Visceral to lead work on its unannounced Star Wars project.
