The Kickstarter campaign for Hover: Revolt of Gamers is nearing the $60,000 stretch goal, the milestone at which former Sega composer Hideki Naganuma, will sign on contribute to the project.
Hover is a fast-paced parkour game planned for PC, PS4, and Xbox One that draws inspiration from Mirror's Edge and Jet Set Radio. Players take the role of ultra-mobile gamers working alone or in multiplayer to take down an oppressive government by darting along a futuristic cityscape, collecting confiscated games, and saving oppressed citizens.
Naganuma scored the original music for both Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future, as well as a host of other titles like Sonic Rush and Dead Heat Riders. He praised Hover's direction in an update posted by Midgar Studio on Monday.
"It was love at first sight," Naganuma said. "Hover has hot graphics and a cool worldview. At first glance, I felt like I'd love to make music for Hover. This feeling's been a long time since Jet Set Radio Future."
Backers who pledge $15 or more may receive access to a digital copy of the game, with an estimated release date of April 2015. Further stretch goals promise to double the size of the game's city, add local multiplayer, and release Hover on Wii U.
