Macbeth director reportedly in talks to helm Assassin's Creed movie

Michael Fassbender may be set to team up with Justin Kurzel again

New Regency and Ubisoft are in discussions with Macbeth director Justin Kurzel to helm the Assassin's Creed movie, according to Deadline.

Although Kurzel isn't a household name, he's currently directing a film adaptation of William Shakespeare's play, in which Michael Fassbender stars in the lead role.

Ubisoft announced in July 2012 that Fassbender will star in and co-produce the Assassin's Creed movie, and that the actor was the company's "first choice" to play the series' iconic hooded hero, although it didn't mention a specific character from the franchise.

In October 2012 it was reported that work on the Assassin's Creed movie was being fast tracked after Ubisoft announced a deal with New Regency and Fox. Screenplay writing was to commence "immediately", with Ubisoft aiming to have a director, cast and script ready by summer 2013.

Ubisoft is reportedly planning an Assassin's Creed film release date of August 7, 2015.
