Mossmouth's Derek Yu listed some of the additions being made to the PS4 port in a post made on the PS Blog.
The game's resolution will be increased to 1080p, the popular Daily Challenge mode will have added social features, while players will be able to upload replays to the online leaderboards.
Spelunky has also been confirmed as a cross-buy title, meaning players who already own either the PS3 or Vita version will be able to download all three versions at no extra cost. Similarly, players who don't own the game and buy the PS4 version will be able to download the PS3 and Vita ones for free.
"I attribute a lot of Spelunky's success to sharing and streaming, and since the PS4 is built in great part around those ideas, we want to make sure that we do everything we can to support that culture," Yu said.
Spelunky was one of twelve new PS4 games announced at an indie-focused event held in San Francisco last night.
Other titles confirmed to be coming to the console include Nidhogg, Skulls of the Shogun and Escape Goat 2.
