Earlier entries in the Mortal Kombat series will not be released on the Wii U Virtual Console service, according to series co-creator Ed Boon.
Boon, who is creative director at Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us studio NetherRealm, was asked by a fan whether he believes the SNES entries would make their way to Virtual Console. He replied on Twitter by saying the games had a "0.0%" chance of making it to Nintendo's console.
In February, actor Kiefer Sutherland said: "I did Mortal Kombat, and that's such a huge game, but it's so not like [MGS5]."
Sutherland's statement sparked speculation that NetherRealm is working on a follow-up to 2011's Mortal Kombat reboot, although parent company Warner Bros. Interactive has not yet revealed what the studio's next project will be.
Unsubstantiated reports have also suggested NetherRealm may be working on a sequel to DC Comics fighting game Injustice.
