Capcom profits as Dead Rising 3 sales hit 1.2 million

Monster Hunter 4 was the star performer in the company's recently ended financial year

Three Capcom games became million-sellers during the Japanese publisher's financial year ended March 31, 2014.

Xbox One exclusive Dead Rising 3 sold 1.2 million copies between its November 22 launch and the end of the business year, while Resident Evil: Revelations HD cleared 1.1 million sales following its May 2013 release.

But the star performer in Capcom's Digital Contents business was 3DS exclusive Monster Hunter 4, which launched in Japan in September and Korea in December. Set for release in the west in early 2015, the game sold 4.1 million copies in six months.

While specific figures weren't revealed, Capcom also said on Thursday that projected sales of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies "were basically achieved", while Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen "showed firm sales" and digital title DuckTales Remastered exceeded expectations.

Lost Planet 3 sales, which were originally forecast to hit 1.2 million during the financial year, came in "below expectations due in part to intensifying competition in the European and US markets".

The company's mobile games also "struggled as a whole due in part to lack of major titles and the fiercely competitive environment".

Capcom's Digital Contents division was by far the company's largest business segment, ahead of its Arcade Operations and Amusement Equipments arms. For the full year ended in March, Capcom's net sales increased 8.6 per cent to 102,200 million yen (£591m/$1b), while net income jumped 15.9 per cent to 3,444 million yen (£20m/$£34m).
