Konami annual profits more than halved

Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes said to have enjoyed "solid sales"

Konami has told investors it made 6.2 billion yen (£36m/$61m) net profit during the twelve months ended in March 2014.

That figure nevertheless represents a slower return on investment, as the profit during the same year prior was more than double at 13.2 billion yen.

Konami has not yet given specific Ground Zeroes sales numbers, though claims they are 'solid'

In terms of sales alone, the publisher brought in 218 billion yen (1.3b/$2.1b), a figure which is slightly down on last year.

Konami said it Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes enjoyed "solid sales", but didn't specify the numbers. The publisher did say it sold 3.4 million Metal Gear games during the most recent financial year, but that includes trading of catalogue titles and other related releases, such as the PC version of Metal Gear Rising.

Ground Zeroes, a preface to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, shipped on March 18. The timing of the release means that only a couple of weeks of business was recorded in Konami's financial report. A clearer picture may emerge in future financial reports.

In April, Konami said it had shipped more than one million copies of Ground Zeroes, though did not offer data on sell-through.
