Record Run out on iOS with new trailer

Harmonix's free-to-play game builds levels around your music library

Harmonix's music playing mobile game Record Run is now available on iOS.

Co-developed with SuperVillain Studios, Record Run combines the time-based challenges of runner games with rhythm-based stages. It's headed to Google Play and Amazon Marketplace soon.

Users can even add their own downloaded songs to the game; Record Run will automatically generate new levels based on the beat of selected tracks.

Players jump, slide and switch across two parallel lanes to collect records, with the performance given a rating as the track concludes. Record Run was first revealed at PAX East.

Record Run is free-to-play, however it supports microtransactions for doubling records collected in-game, purchasing records outright, and more. Records and backstage passes can be used to unlock extra content including character outfits.

Harmonix, which was founded in 1995, was bought by Viacom in 2006 amid the Rock Band and Guitar Hero craze. However, the Massachusetts based studio became independent in 2010 when Viacom sold the business amid suggestions that plastic guitar games had saturated the market.

It's currently crowdfunding a new Amplitude, based on the PS2 game of the same name.
