'Toddler-horror' game Among the Sleep coming to PS4

First-person adventure to support Project Morpheus

Norway-based studio Krillbite has announced plans to release "toddler-horror" game Among the Sleep on PS4.

The first-person adventure, in which you play as a two-year-old child, was previously confirmed for PC, Mac and Linux after the project surpassed its $200,000 Kickstarter funding target in May 2013.

Writing on the PS Blog, Krillbite CEO and programmer Ole Andreas Jordet explained the concept behind the game, which he says started off as a small student project but has grown to something much bigger.

"Among the Sleep is a first person horror adventure where you play as a two-year-old. You're vulnerable, scared, and trying to make sense of the world. It explores horror through atmosphere and exploration, not with scores and combat systems.

"Merging a child's perception of reality with its wild imagination provides an interesting setting to tell a story. With only your teddy bear as a companion, we hope players will unravel what is actually causing the fear and confusion."

On top of a PS4 release, Krillbite also announced Among the Sleep would also support Sony's recently revealed Project Morpheus VR headset.

"We want as many people as possible to be able play Among the Sleep when it's released in the not-so-distant future, so I guess it's no better time to announce that Among the Sleep will also be coming to PS4," he said.

"We're also thrilled to be among the first to explore Sony's new virtual reality technology Morpheus for Among the Sleep."

Among the Sleep was first announced in 2012 with a teaser trailer showing the player in a cot at night before wandering off through the dark house.

"After being put to bed one evening, mysterious things start to happen," says the developer on its official site.

"Being played in first person, the game let its players immerse themselves in a child's limitless imagination. In the borderland between dream and reality, surreal creatures and diverse environments will present you with both physical and mental obstacles that challenge your creativity."

Krillbite Studio previously said that Among the Sleep could also come to Xbox One, as well as PlayStation 4.
