3D Realms and Interceptor Entertainment have announced Bombshell, an action RPG for PS4 and PC.
Being developed by the same team that handled the Rise Of The Triad remake in 2013, Bombshell puts players in the role of Shelly 'Bombshell' Harrison, a bomb disposal expert turned mercenary for hire.
The president has been kidnapped by an alien menace, so it's up to Bombshell to travel across four different planets to rescue him, while blasting away countless enemy creatures in the process.
According to 3D Realms, Bombshell will be powered by the Unreal engine and will feature "classic role-playing mechanics, including experience points, upgrades, side quests, and non-linear levels".
The lead character is also equipped with a metallic arm which she can upgrade with one of ten different enhancements throughout the game.
The surprise announcement comes in the midst of a legal battle between 3D Realms and Gearbox surrounding the former's proposed release of Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, a top-down action game starring its '90s gaming hero.
In February, Gearbox announced its intention to sue 3D Realms and Mass Destruction developer Interceptor Entertainment for allegedly using the IP it claims it owns without permission.
3D Realms responded to Gearbox's trademark violation lawsuit by claiming that it still owns the license to the franchise.
