Far Cry 3 has become one of Ubisoft's best-selling games, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed in a conference call with investors today.
Though the game released in Ubisoft's 2012-13 fiscal year, the franchise managed to move an additional 3 million units in the year which ended on March 31, 2014.
"Far Cry 3 has now sold 9 million units since its release in December 2012, which bodes very well for the launch of Far Cry 4 later this year," Guillemot said.
Ubisoft reported in May 2013 Far Cry 3's sales had surpassed 6 million, performing far beyond its initial expectations. Standalone downloadable title Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was also the "fastest selling downloadable title in Ubisoft history" at the time of its release.
Ubisoft revealed in the same financial presentation that Far Cry 4 will launch on November 18 in North America and November 21 in Europe on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
It will trade the typical tropical locales of the Far Cry series for the fictional Himalayan country of Kyrat, according to the official announcement:
"Once again, players will be able to craft their own stories as they travel through this exotic open world teeming with wildlife - using their wits along with an assortment of powerful weapons and diverse vehicles."
It is expected that Far Cry 4 will be shown at E3 in June.
