Halos 1-4 bound for Xbox One in 'Halo: The Master Chief Collection' - report

Master Chief's full story revived ahead of Halo 5 release, claims 'source'

The much-rumored Halo 2 revival for Xbox One is to come as part of a compilation package also featuring Halo 1, 3 and 4, according to a new report.

'Halo: The Master Chief Collection' is the title of the compilation, and will tell the full story of Spartan 117 ahead of his next outing, the recently-announced Halo 5 Guardians, according to an Engadget report citing anonymous 'sources'.

Spin off titles Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach are said not to be included in the package, but no further information is offered. Microsoft has declined to respond to the claims.

This backs up previous reports that a second 'anniversary' Halo title could spearhead Xbox One's Christmas 2014 line-up.

CVG sources first indicated in January that a new Anniversary remake of Halo 2 would be released in time for the Bungie original's tenth birthday in November 2014.

Our report was later backed up via comments made by Master Chief voice actor Steve Downes, who claimed in February that Halo 5 would not release in 2014, but that "an anniversary edition of Halo 2" would.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary was released for Xbox 360 in 2011 to mark a decade since the release of the Xbox original.

The remake was developed in collaboration between 343 Industries, Saber Interactive and Certain Affinity and featured rebuilt visuals, online play and Kinect support. CVG understands the same studios are behind the Xbox One sequel.

In an announcement on Friday, Microsoft named and dated Halo 5 Guardians for release on Xbox One in autumn/fall 2015, confirming that the title will be available this year as previously understood.

In a prepared statement, 343 Industries general manager Bonnie Ross described the shooter as "a massive and exciting project" that "takes full advantage of the Xbox One's hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen."
