DriveClub beta rumoured for July

Players will reportedly be able to sign up following announcement at E3

Sony reportedly plans to launch a public DriveClub beta in July.

According to VG247, the company will announce the beta during the PlayStation E3 media briefing on June 9, with sign-ups beginning the following day.

Asked about the possibility of a public beta, Driveclub design director Simon Barlow told the site: "I'd be very keen to do a beta but at the moment I haven't got any plans I can announce.

"We're looking at multiple options for continuing user testing. We may very well do a friends and family private beta within the Sony family. But as for any open betas or closed betas there are no specific plans as yet."

Following a lengthy delay, Sony recently confirmed the DriveClub release date as October 7. The racer will be offered as a full-price $60 game, in addition to a cut-back DriveClub PS Plus Edition downloadable free of charge to subscribers.

CVG's latest Driveclub preview, which was published on Thursday, labelled the racer's delay the right decision. "The metamorphosis of former PS4 launch title DriveClub shows exactly how valuable time can be for game developers," we said. "It's clear that the extra construction time has done a world of good to improve a game that formerly featured many interesting ideas, but seemingly struggled to execute them."
