Video: A very early look at Unreal Tournament

Epic has provided fans with a very early look at its next Unreal Tournament game.

The video below shows a number of developers playing deathmatch in the new UT for the first time. It features a weapons system and basic movement prototype designed by a "small team of UT veterans" who began work on the project earlier this month.

Epic said in early May that the game will be entirely free to play, with no microtransactions, including future content updates.

The "next-gen competitive shooter" is planned for Windows, Linux, and Mac, and will build on Unreal's long tradition of mod support. Players will be able to make maps, weapons, and near total-conversions, which can be sold or given away.

Epic has said that the game will start off with a focus on standard deathmatch only. Other series standard modes like Capture the Flag and Onslaught will be added over time.

The last major title in the series was Unreal Tournament III, which released for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2007.
