Costume Quest 2 will refine the first game's candy-seeking gameplay and imagination-infused combat across new and old consoles.
Developer Double Fine gave Polygon a look at the RPG sequel in a preview published Monday. The studio confirmed that the game will be out in time for Halloween, and it will release on PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
"It's probably our most requested sequel, besides Psychonauts," Double Fine publishing manager Greg Rice said. "People have been asking for it forever. I think it's that every Halloween you're reminded about the game. We have a lot of people who are coming back to us saying they replay it every year."
Rice said the studio has changed the game's timing-based attacks to make well-timed attacks more rewarding. Collectible cards from vendors or earned from quests can be used to upgrade abilities, but they'll have limited uses, and new costumes like the Clown, Superhero, and Pterodactyl will encourage new tactics.
The game's real-life segments have been modified to make more use of the costume mechanics, and all the kids have been given costume-independent speed boosting roller skates.
Twins Wren and Reynold will star once more, somehow having found their way to New Orleans immediately after the events of the Grubbins on Ice DLC. Costume Quest 2 was first announced in March.
