Battlefield 4 adds lag-reducing high-frequency option

"Bubble" around players refreshes more frequently

A new patch rolling out for Battlefield 4 can reduce delays from server lag by more than half in certain conditions

The update which hits PC, PS3, Xbox 360 Tuesday and PS4 and Xbox One later in the week adds adds a new option for high-frequency network updates. This lets Battlefield 4 clients receive more frequent updates from the server in a certain radius around the player, which DICE has dubbed the "high frequency bubble".

Though the option is off by default, video demonstrations by DICE found that it can reduce delays for up-close interactions by as much as 60 percent, resulting in "a smoother, more 'correct' player experience."

DICE recommends that players with a connection faster than 1mbps should be able to use the high-frequency updates' highest setting without any problems.

The netcode patch is the first update made with feedback and data from the Community Test Environment, a pool of PC players who volunteer to try out potential changes to the game before they hit full release.

DICE and EA have pledged to continue supporting Battlefield 4 even as Battlefield Hardline takes center stage at E3 next month.
