Fresh speculation has emerged over the launch date for The Last of Us Remastered, with a branch of UK retailer GAME claiming it will be released next week.
On Tuesday night GAME's Barnsley branch tweeted: "#TheLastOfUs hits #PS4 next week!! #GameExclusive #DayOne Edition £5 Preorder! 10/10 #GameOfTheYear2013"
It followed this up with: "It's pinned down for Friday 13th release! Preorders get access to day one edition only... non preorders just the game only!"
The shop then posted the following tweet, indicating a release date of Friday June 13.
All three tweets were promptly taken down (though not before being captured by NeoGAF readers), and the following tweet was posted in their place:
Apologises everyone about #TheLastOfUs Release Date! #MissPrint #OverEagerStaffMember We will update you when we get an official date sorry!— GAME Barnsley (@GAMEBarnsley) June 3, 2014
The tweets have sparked speculation that Sony is planning to announce the release as a surprise during its E3 conference.
However, Sony has since released a statement to IGN explicitly denying the June 13 release date. "As we've announced, The Last of Us Remastered for PS4 will release this summer," it states.
"An official release date, though, has not yet been announced for the game. The release date is not June 13th. We will keep you posted on an official release date."
In April a number of retailers listed the game's release date as June 20, though at the time Sony did not confirm whether this was accurate.
