Sony Pictures said to be in early discussions with Jordan Vogt-Roberts

X-Men and Spider-Man producer Avi Arad will produce the film, with production president Michael De Luca overseeing the project.

Rumours of a Metal Gear Solid movie have been circling for nearly a decade, with the project having seemingly been on and off numerous times over the years.

In 2006 notorious director Uwe Boll claimed he had been approached by Konami to direct a Metal Gear Solid film.

"People are coming to me with Metal Gear Solid," he said at the time. "They wrote a script, and Konami basically paid these people to write it. And I hope that Metal Gear Solid will be working."

Stories surfaced again in early 2010, when De Luca shared concerns that the film wouldn't be made due to a disagreement between various parties.

However, two years later, during a Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary event in Japan, Arad confirmed that a film is indeed going to happen.
