The announcement was made during Sony's E3 media briefing on Monday, where the firm also revealed that, weeks before the beta, PlayStation Plus subscribers will get access to a 'first-look Alpha' for Destiny from this Thursday, June 12.

Players interested in participating in the Alpha should register their interest on the game's official website.

Publisher Activision previously said that a Destiny beta would kick off this summer, when it would be made available to PS3 and PS4 players first.

The company has also announced a Destiny release date of September 9 on PlayStation platforms, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
