Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty will release on Xbox One after its PlayStation versions are complete.
Developer Oddworld Inhabitants announced on Tuesday that the game would launch on PS4 on July 23 in Europe and July 22 in the US. Series creator Lorne Lanning told Eurogamer that it has worked out an arrangement to release the game on Xbox One after that, despite the system's infamous release-day parity clause for self-published games.
"As soon as we get our obligations on the PS platforms out, our intention is to get rolling on the Xbox platform and really treat it with the same level of care," Lanning said. "We don't have a release date, but we know it'll be before the end of the year."
Lanning expects Microsoft to drop the parity clause altogether at some point, but for now the two companies have an arrangement.
"The fact is, we were strapped for time and resources, so the parity clause was a challenge. I don't know where it stands officially with Xbox at the moment, but we've worked it out."
Lanning said that resources and optimization concerns would dictate whether Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty hits Xbox One or Wii U first. It's also planned for release on PC, Mac, and Linux.
