The Last Guardian will not be quietly canceled, Yoshida says

"It's a highly anticipated title, we have to [announce it]"

If Sony were to ever cancel The Last Guardian, Shuhei Yoshida has pledged that it would let fans know.

He said he was "heartbroken" by the reports, and that the team is working hard on the game, which was originally announced for PS3 in at E3 2009.

"When we cancel a title and it is something we have announced already, we'll say so," Yoshida said. "It's a highly anticipated title, we have to do so."

SCEA's new CEO Shawn Layden dismissed the reports earlier this week. Last year, Shuhei Yoshida told CVG that Sony was waiting for the right time "to re-announce it".

Reports in October that suggested the game was being "re-engineered" sparked rumours that it will be released for PS4.

Originally announced at E3 in 2009, the project's status was first called into question when lead designer Fumito Ueda resigned from Japan Studio in late 2011.
