PlanetSide 2 players have a new continent to conquer: the infantry-friendly swamps of Hossin.
An update last week added the fourth playable zone to the free-to-play MMO shooter, along with new options for player-run Outfits to lay claim to their own bases.
"With [Hossin's] swamp-like terrain and natural barriers, players combat skills will be challenged like never before," PlanetSide 2 creative director Matt Higby said in a prepared statement. "Facilities and bases are scattered throughout, making infantry combat the most important it's ever been."
Though the zone is publicly available, its bases are not 100 percent finished. Sony Online Entertainment plans to consider player feedback and continually update Hossin "for a long time to come."
The update also added an "ownership" system, where the Outfit that contributed most heavily to capturing a base gets to lay claim to that base after the battle. It also streamlined the Outfit recruitment process.
Lastly, individual continents can be "locked out" of conflict if empires manage to control every point on the map, forcing the battle to other regions.
SOE confirmed in early May that PlanetSide 2 will run at 1080p on PS4, and that it is still planned for release in 2014.
