Top-down shooter Crimsonland gets PS4 release in July

Visceral indie shooter reaches consoles after over a decade in the making

Indie development studio 10tons will release its first PS4 game, Crimsonland, on July 15, it has confirmed.

Crisonland is a dual-stick, top-down shooter that has players shooting increasingly overwhelming hordes of enemies in somewhat similar fashion to Geometry Wars.

As 10ton PR rep Jaakko Maaniemi explains: "You play this Trooper guy. Aliens, giant spiders, zombies, and other monsters start coming at you from every direction. You shoot them, but more keep coming. Soon enough you'll be running. Just when you think you're dead, you get some awesome powerups and wipe the screen clear in few seconds ... But an even bigger horde is already coming right at you."

The game started as a student project and went on to achieve a level of success that drove the founding of 10tons in 2003.

The PS4 game is said to be "largely the same" as the original, but with new overhauled visuals, design "tweaks" and new content to bolster the package. The game will feature sixty campaign missions with three difficulty settings, five survival modes with leaderboards for single player and 2-4 player local co-op.

In-game, you'll be able to use up to 30 weapons and 55 perks, the latter of which are "special abilities which allow you to reload faster, shoot poison bullets" etc.
