Project Spark launching in October

Game-building title gets retail starter pack

Project Spark will launch in October, Microsoft announced Tuesday.

The free-to-play game-building tool will launch on October 7 in the Americas, October 9 in the Asia Pacific region, and October 10 in Europe.

The title is currently available in open beta on PC and Xbox One, where Microsoft says it has amassed more than one million users since its initial release in 2013.

Project Spark's Xbox One version will be available in retail with the $39.99 Project Spark Starter Pack. It includes access to sci-fi content pack "Galaxies: First Contact," playable warrior champion Sir Haakon "Hawk" the Knight, the first episode of a campaign adventure titled "Champions Quest: Void Storm" and more.

All of this content will also be for digital purchase on PC and Xbox One.

Microsoft announced at E3 that Project Spark will include a cameo from Conker, the platforming hero who is best known for the then-shocking adult platformer Conker's Bad Fur Day.

It has not revealed what role the foul-mouthed squirrel will play in Project Spark.
