Maya is latest character to be confirmed for the 'second season' of Killer Instinct on Xbox One.
Her inclusion in the game was announced during a panel at Evo 2014 in Las Vegas and later confirmed on the official Killer Instinct Facebook page.
The Amazonian warrior has only appeared in one Killer Instinct game to date: 1996's Killer Instinct 2, which was later released on N64 as Killer Instinct Gold.
Maya was the queen of Amazonia after banishing the evil dark lord Gargos, but when he returned Maya was cast out by her tribe and forced to vanquish him to regain her throne.
Maya is the second character to be confirmed for the second season of Killer Instinct DLC. In June it was announced that fan favourite TJ Combo would also be joining the roster.
During his debut trailer, it was teased that the second character to be revealed would be fiery fighter Cinder, making Maya's confirmation something of a surprise.
The Xbox One fighting game, which launched with the console, is free-to-play but charges for additional characters and costumes.
Double Helix Games was the original developer of Microsoft's Killer Instinct reboot, but the studio has since been purchased by Amazon. Divekick maker Iron Galaxy Studios has now taken on series development duties.
In addition to Divekick, Iron Galaxy has worked on downloadable versions of classic fighting games including Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online, Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, and Darkstalkers Resurrection.
