Sims dev Maxis working on Minecraft-inspired F2P game

Creativity focused project also takes cues from LittleBigPlanet and Disney Infinity

Maxis is hiring for a new free-to-play game in the "creative space", according to a job listing posted by the studio.

The listing for a senior designer at EA's Redwood Shores headquarters calls for candidates that understand Maxis games like SimCity, The Sims, and Spore, as well as other titles like LittleBigPlanet, Minecraft, Roblox, Disney Infinity, and Project Spark.

Working on the project will require "deep understanding of principles of game progression design, crafting trees, technology trees, character RPG-style leveling design and mathematical loot progression modeling".

Maxis also asks for prior experience in "deeply social multiplayer games such as MMOs."

Designers will integrate free-to-play monetization in respectful ways: "i.e. design monetization that players respect and feel adds a great deal of value for their money"

Last but not least, the listing says the game's core systems will include "mechanics, player goals and drivers, creativity editors, gameplay progression, extensive multiplayer gameplay mechanics, in-game economies, technology trees, HD, PC, and mobile and tablet companion application integration".

The HD in the final line of that paragraph could refer to modern consoles. The listing does not give a name or overall franchise for the project, though it does specify that it will belong to a "unique, emerging IP".
