The Last of Us Remastered review round-up

Critics give their verdicts on Naughty Dog's next-gen update

The first The Last of Us Remastered reviews have been published online.

CVG's The Last of Us Remastered review said "one of last year's highlights is now one of 2014's best games."

The The Last of Us Remastered release date is this Tuesday, July 29 in North America and this Friday, August 1 in the UK.

To give you a taste of what critics thought, we've rounded up a number of review scores below, along with short excerpts from the verdicts.

CVG: 8/10 - One year on, it doesn't quite have the same impact, and a handful of minor flaws are more obvious on a second playthrough. Nor is there anything here that should leave the seven million-plus owners of the PS3 version too downhearted - hence we're lowering our score a little. Still, if you're one of the few fortunate enough to be experiencing The Last of Us for the first time, then we're very, very jealous.
Polygon: 8/10 - It reminds me of a great Director's Cut DVD of a beloved movie - a collection of everything a fan could want and a celebration of it at the same time. It's another sign that Naughty Dog understands and respects its fan base, and if nothing else, that's worth supporting.
GameSpot: 8/10 - The Last of Us is a great action game that you should play if you haven't already. And if you have played it before, the improvements here aren't so dramatic as to make the game feel like a new experience, but it is definitely one worth revisiting.
Crave Online: 8.5/10 - More than anything, The Last of Us Remastered is made specifically for the people who missed out on The Last of Us the first time around. This is the definitive version of last year's Game of the Year, but not necessarily the kind of package that is a must-have for those who already made the captivating trip from start to finish.
Game Informer: 10/10 - If you played 2013's Game of the Year near release and have been dying to return to the dark tale, then this is a great opportunity. If you never played The Last of Us at all, this is absolutely the way to do it.
VideoGamer: 10/10 - All told, The Last of Us Remastered is the best version of one of the last generation's best games. Those expecting it to look totally 'next-gen' may be disappointed, as even at its peak it resembles a last-generation game being played at Ultra settings on PC.
Metro: 9/10 - Playing the Remastered version is like moving from a DVD copy of your favourite film to a Blu-ray: a small change by most standards, but still a desirable one.
Metro: 5/5 - The Last of Us remains a must-play, genre-defining action survival game, and the Remastered version brings with it plentiful tweaks and additional content that make it well worth the asking price.
