Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will have a Trophy Shop

Purchase in-game collectibles with G or Play Coins

Super Smash Bros 3DS will let players buy trophies directly from a trophy shop using in-game currency.

A screenshot posted to the Smash Bros. Miiverse community yesterday showed the shop, along with some commentary attributed to series director Masahiro Sakurai.

"Super Smash Bros. Brawl had tons of trophies, but rumor has it that the 3DS version alone may have more than Brawl," Sakurai said.

"Here's something new - the trophy shop. If you're having a hard time getting certain trophies, why not just buy them? They sometimes go on sale, too."

The screenshot shows six different trophies with a standard price of 300G and a sale price of 210G. Players earned G by completing events and matches in previous Smash Bros. titles.

The trophy shop also supports Play Coins as an alternate currency, though it's not clear if the Wii U version will use the same shop mechanic; the console does not natively support Play Coins, which are earned via the 3DS' built-in pedometer function.

Trophies first appeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee, representing characters and items from across the history of its included franchises and beyond.

The Nintendo 3DS edition of Super Smash Bros. is scheduled to release in October, while the Wii U version is slated for the holiday season.
