Xbox One patch puts Diablo 3 at 1080p

Blizzard says a day-one update will match PS4 performance

Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition will run at 1080p and 60 frames per second thanks to a day-one patch, Blizzard has confirmed.

A spokesperson for the developer gave the encouraging news to OXM on Thursday, eliminating the performance discrepancy revealed at E3 in June.

"We've now confirmed that following a day one patch, the Xbox One version of UEE will run at full HD 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second (up from 900p, 60 fps)," the spokesperson said.

Blizzard said at E3 that it chose to prioritize framerate over resolution - the PS4 version was set to handle both. Blizzard did not specify why that tradeoff is no longer necessary but it may be related to the new Kinect-disabling developer tools Microsoft detailed shortly after the convention.

That's more good news for PS3 Diablo 3 owners who have purchased an Xbox One; the Ultimate Evil Edition will also allow players to transfer their Diablo 3 saves from PS3 to Xbox One or from Xbox 360 to PS4, Blizzard revealed earlier this week.

In August, Blizzard announced Diablo 3 sales had reached over 20 million units worldwide across all platforms, including the Reaper of Souls expansion and digital sales.

The Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition release date is August 19 on PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 and Xbox One.
