Top-down criminal slaughter romp Hotline Miami will be released on PS4 on August 19 in North America and August 20 in Europe, Sony has confirmed.
The game will be a cross buy title, meaning anyone who owns either the PS3 or PS Vita game will be able to download the PS4 version at no additional cost.
The PS4 game will be largely identical to previous versions of the game, with the exception of some DualShock 4-specific control features.
"Gamers can now use DualShock 4′s touch pad to look around and lock on enemies, and actually shake the controller itself to perform execution moves when you have an enemy pinned on the ground," explains PS4 developer Devolver Digital.
"And to take the violence to the next level, the sounds of those same execution moves are amplified through the speaker on the DualShock 4 itself."
Develver is the third developer to work on the game, with development of the PS3 and Vita games having been previously handled by Dutch studio Abstraction Games under the guidance of original PC creator Dennaton Games.
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is set for release in the third quarter of 2014. The sequel takes place following the events of the original and is billed as the "grand finale".
"You're a murderer, you murder people. Again. And again," reads the official blurb. "How certain you are of your actions and what is, and what is not, real is what you must determine in Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number."
"Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number commands you to step into the murderous minds of several distinct characters - each with their own motivations and methods of execution - as storylines intersect and reality slips away into a haze of neon and carnage."
