Arena of Fate gameplay trailer details 20-minute matches

The first gameplay trailer for Arena of Fate introduces multiplayer battles and the 20-minute-match scoring system.

Much of the game's combat and map dynamics will be familiar to players of League of Legends, Dota 2 and other MOBAs. However, Crytek hopes to distinguish Arena of Fate from its competition by imposing a hard time limit of 20 minutes for each match dictated by a multifacted scoring system.

Rather than letting each game play out as long as it takes for one side to destroy the other's base, the first team to reach 10 points wins the game. Points can be earned by defeating "the dangers lurking in the arena".

If neither team has reached the goal by the end of 20 minutes, whichever side is closest wins.

Arena of Fate was first announced in May, when Crytek revealed it would stars figures from across history, legend and fable: including Frankenstein, Jack the Ripper, Baron Münchhausen, Joan of Arc, Robin Hood, Little Red Riding Hood and more.

Applications for beta access are available on the game's official website.

Arena of Fate is one of the first products of Crytek's shift to free-to-play games, along with Warface and Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age.
